An Excellent Scuba Diving Trip to Samran Pinnacles & Sail Rock

Despite Koh Phangan being a quiet island we managed to stir up enough interest to do a slightly different diving trip yesterday. A happy bunch of scuba divers suggests that we don’t always have to go to Sail Rock in the low season! The next step is to go to 3 dive sites, namely Southwest Pinnacles, Samran & Sail Rock; please let us know if you’re interested..

The team are all taking it reasonably easy & getting some real fun diving done, as a break from either teaching Padi courses or the delights of running the dive centre! Expect more photos as we all get more chances to play with our toys! A small Chaloklum Bay beach cleaning session came together a couple of days ago; well done Cris, Dave, Stef, the Core Researchers, et al. As you say Cris, maybe it should be done on a regular basis (but with a bit more prior notice next time!). Finally Nick & Stefan are still umming & aahing about their scuba diving mission to Chumphon; will they get it together? !

Time to relax on Koh Phangan

Koh Phangan is a super quiet island, which is normal for May. Hot, sunny weather, great vis at Sail Rock yesterday & a whaleshark spotted the day before; shame we can’t change the tourist seasons! Anyway it’s a great chance for the diving school team to unwind a little &, guess what?…go Scuba diving. We’re exploring local dive sites on a daily basis, & Samran Pinnacles on Monday/Tuesday is the next special chance for us to get out with the cameras.

After the farewell party for Heinz & Angie the social scene around the dive centre has been somewhat muted, although we can of course still manage a few evening beers from Mr Tung’s across the road. The instructional team are also getting a short break from any Padi Courses, as Divemaster trainee Mr Dave is out of the water with a healing Koh Phangan (motorcycle generated) tattoo! & as it’s quiet there’s a chance that Nick & Stefan might be off to Chumphon for a couple of days of exploratory scuba dives, more to follow…

Koh Phangan is quiet; time to go Scuba diving or do that Padi course!

Although Koh Phangan is not a busy island at all, the weather & diving are fine. On our diving trip to Sail Rock today we had nice visibility & loads of fish (but not the whale shark this time…) Other dive sites we plan to visit soon are Samran Pinnacles & maybe Koh Tao for the snorkelling; we are trying to find out how conditions are at the Marine Park, though the current West wind probably means it’s gone green!

Cheerio Michi; hope you’ve had a painless trip back home & you’re adjusting to the climate!! Heinz & Angie are following him in the next few days so we’re having a wee party tonight in their honour (& because we like good company/food/drink of course). But there is still some action at the dive centre; a couple of Padi courses in progress, aided & abetted by Divemaster trainee Dave, plus some serious playing with new photographic toys.

Great Diving Trip to Samran Pinnacles, April 2012.

Well, it came together at last & we made a diving trip to Samran Pinnacles yesterday. After some fun finding the pinnacles we enjoyed 2 leisurely dives with great conditions on a favourite dive site. It was a special day for the macro team too, with some fine nudibranch found & duly photographed; photos are up on facebook already! We then moved to a quiet Sail Rock with only 2 small dive boats left & had a nice, peaceful 3rd dive with good conditions. Who could ask for more? Our next special should be to the Marine Park v. soon…

It’s nice to have a few of our friends & scuba diving “regulars” around at the moment to allow us to offer a variety of diving trips, much as we love Sail Rock! And as we move to a quieter season the team are taking the opportunity to get a break from the dive centre & Padi courses to do a little more fun diving. We’re hoping that Cris will be back in the water to join us in the next few days; she’s been so patient that she surely deserves to be diving soon!

Marine Park Diving & Snorkelling tomorrow

On our dive trip to Sail Rock yesterday we were lucky to have yet another whaleshark sighting, but as diving conditions are generally good now, we want to offer some variety for our diving school regulars and so we plan to visit Angthong National Marine Park tomorrow. Also planned is a trip to the rarely visited Samran Pinnacles after the Songkran celebrations on Koh Phangan (please, please!).

Welcome back to Heinz & Angie; nice to start with a whaleshark on Angies 555′th dive, along with Mr Elliott & friends Meg & Dan. Good luck also to Cris on her visa run; we hope all goes well & you’re back soon & able to get in the water again! Incidentally Messrs Michi & Gabi are fit & well, Michi out to Sail Rock again today & Mr G on the Padi courses.

Whale Sharks back at Sail Rock?

Our last week of diving trips to Sail Rock have had great conditions & even better, 3 days when we were honoured with the presence of Whale Sharks! Untypically, we had some rainy weather over the last 2 days which has not encouraged diving (or Padi courses), but today the sun’s beating down on the dive centre & it’s definitely time to get out & make some scuba dives (or come snorkelling) with Chaloklum Diving!

Best wishes to Margot & Tom back home in Germany; hope you’re getting a break before the hard work starts! Welcome to Mr Elliott, making a guest appearance with the dive team over Easter. And Heinz & Angie, our greatest scuba diving supporters, should be with us on Koh Phangan in the next few days & with the present lovely conditions, a visit to Samran Pinnacles & a 3 Dive Special must be on the cards…

Koh Phangan Scuba Diving is fine too

Over the last few days we’ve been doing a lot of diving (& Padi courses) at Koh Phangan dive sites, &, looking at some of our photos we should do it more often. Check our Marine Life RSS feeds for some of our latest piccies. However Sail Rock does look like it’s clearing up, (do we dare say it!) with 10+ m vis & loads of fish today & we’re once again waiting to hear about Marine Park conditions…

As Tom & Margot do their last diving trips with us (does Sail Rock always clear up just as you leave Tom ?!) before returning to chilly Germany, we’re looking forward to the return of our friends Heinz & Angie. We’ve a few Padi courses due in the next week to keep the team busy but otherwise life on Koh Phangan is not too hectic. And a big welcome to the the Lolum Diving team, Padi Divemaster trainee Mr Dave; we’re looking forward to it.

Hoping Sail Rock will offer better scuba dives after the full moon…

So it’s diving and snorkelling the quieter dive sites of Koh Tao again (possibly the Marine Park if it’s miraculously cleared up!). However we had turtles & even bump head parrot fish on our last diving trip, as well as a boat load of happy divers, Padi course students and snorkellers. Our feeling is that Sail Rock must get better soon, especially after the full moon; we will keep you posted.

Last night was Ute’s farewell party, with pizzas c/o Gianni & the hospitality of the World’s End restaurant. Needless to say a splendid time was had by all; we’re currently looking for some presentable photo’s to post! & we hope you come back soon Ute. There’s no special news on the Padi courses front, other than we’re on the lookout for some new Padi Divemaster trainees to enliven the dive centre, so if you’re interested please get in contact.

Chaloklum Diving head for Koh Tao again!

Tomorrow we plan a diving trip to Koh Tao. We have scuba divers who want some variation from Sail Rock & snorkellers who want more coral reef to explore. We’re waiting for an update on visibility at the Marine Park, but it currently looks like Koh Phangan diving conditions are still better!

We’re hoping to see Michi back from a stressful visa run today (there’s nothing like a Padi course to soothe your nerves…), & sadly Ms Ute will be leaving us soon. A farewell party from the diving school team is a must… & Ms Cris seems to have a new nickname in Chaloklum Village; check our next blog for more!

Good Scuba Diving on Sail Rock at last!

As we hoped, the diving conditions at Sail Rock are clearing up. Today with visibility up to 15 metres (& loads of fish) we have a completely happy dive boat, as several of our scuba divers have been waiting some time on Koh Phangan for us to give the go-ahead… Local diving & snorkelling is also fine at the moment & we’ve made a few enjoyable diving trips by longtail boat.

Good luck to Mr G with your visa run today & “see you soon” to our favourite Scuba divers, Heinz & Angie who are due to brighten up the dive centre in April! Not much news otherwise as the team are working so hard on their Padi courses (cough cough!)
